2. What Threply Does
Threply is an AI keyboard and reply assistant for iOS. It helps users generate reply suggestions, rewrite or translate selected text, and use a local Rime-based Chinese input experience.
- AI keyboard reply suggestions.
- User-triggered screenshot-based reply generation.
- Direct image upload to backend AI services for recognition and reply generation.
- Selected-text AI tools such as translation, rewriting, and replacement.
- Local Rime Chinese input, user dictionary, and learning records.
- iCloud sync for supported personalization and keyboard data.
- Subscriptions and account features.
Not included: The first public release is not intended to include microphone, speech recognition, advertising SDKs, marketing tracking SDKs, third-party analytics SDKs, or third-party crash reporting SDKs.
3. Information We Collect and Process
Account Information
When you sign in with Apple, we may collect your Apple user identifier, name or nickname, email address including private relay email, and login session credentials needed to keep you signed in.
Subscription and Purchase Information
Apple processes your payment information. Threply does not store your bank card or payment account information. To verify and restore subscriptions, we may process product IDs, subscription status, Apple signed transaction information, and transaction identifiers.
Device Identifier
We may generate and store a device identifier for app functionality, device credential management, device limits, and abnormal traffic or abuse prevention.
Screenshots and Images
When you actively trigger screenshot-based reply features, Threply may upload the complete screenshot or image you provide. We use it to recognize context, generate reply suggestions, adjust tone, regenerate results, and return the requested output.
Complete screenshots are not intended to be retained permanently by our backend. They may be temporarily processed or stored for the requested function, troubleshooting, or short-term reliability. Complete screenshots are not used for model training.
Text, OCR Text, and Cursor Context
When you actively use AI reply or AI text tools, Threply may process selected text, cursor context, OCR text or recognized content generated from images, and chat or draft context that you intentionally provide.
We do not continuously read all keyboard input in the background. We do not read your clipboard for these features.
Reply History, Preferences, and Personalization
Threply may store reply choices, expansion history, interaction preferences, keyboard preferences, custom configuration, Rime learning records, user dictionary data, and optional personalization data.
Logs and Diagnostics
Threply does not include third-party analytics SDKs or third-party crash-reporting SDKs in the app experience covered by this policy. Backend logs may temporarily contain request metadata, error context, or limited request content when necessary for security, troubleshooting, reliability, abuse prevention, or service operation.
4. How We Use Information
- Account registration, login, and session maintenance.
- Subscription verification, entitlement recovery, and dispute handling.
- AI reply generation, image recognition, translation, rewriting, and replacement.
- Tone adjustment, regeneration, and personalization.
- Local keyboard input, Rime learning, and user dictionary features.
- iCloud sync across your own Apple devices.
- Device credential management, device limits, security, and abuse prevention.
- Troubleshooting, service reliability, and customer support.
- Model, product, and service improvement, including use of OCR text, reply choices, and interaction preferences where permitted by law and your settings.
5. Third-Party Service Providers
Relevant screenshots, images, selected text, OCR text, cursor context, or chat context may be sent to third-party AI model service providers when needed to fulfill your request. Current model providers may include DeepSeek, MiniMax, and Qwen. The providers we use may change as the service evolves.
Some non-image derived text, OCR text, reply choices, and interaction preferences may be used to improve or train models and service quality where permitted by law and your settings. Complete screenshots are not used for model training by Threply.

For users in mainland China, backend servers and cloud providers for the app service are intended to be located in mainland China.
6. iCloud Sync and Local Storage
If iCloud is available and enabled for your Apple account and Threply features, Threply may sync supported data through your private iCloud storage so that your settings and personalization can work across your own devices.
- Keyboard preferences and custom configuration.
- Rime learning records and user dictionary data.
- Reply history and interaction preferences.
- OCR archive data, if an OCR archive feature is enabled.
- User profile or personalization data, if personalization features are enabled.
The first public release is not intended to expose OCR archive as a default user-facing feature. Some development, testing, or future personalization features may use OCR archive or profile data only when enabled or necessary for the relevant feature.
Login session credentials and subscription-related data may be stored locally, in Keychain, on our backend, or through Apple services as needed for authentication and subscription operation. They are not used as general personalization content.
7. Full Access Keyboard Notice
Threply's keyboard extension requests Full Access because network-backed AI features, account and subscription status, App Group sharing, and subscription-page navigation require capabilities that are not available to a keyboard extension without Full Access.
If Full Access is not enabled, basic keyboard input is intended to remain available, but network-backed AI and account-related features may not work.
Enabling Full Access does not mean Threply continuously collects everything you type. Threply does not read password or secure text fields beyond what iOS permits, does not read your clipboard, and does not upload ordinary typing content by default. Necessary content is processed only when you actively trigger an AI feature.
8. Data Retention, Choices, and Rights
We retain personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this policy, unless a longer period is required or permitted by applicable law.
- Account information is retained while your account is active or as needed for account operation, unless deletion is requested or the information is no longer needed.
- Subscription and transaction records may be retained as needed for entitlement recovery, disputes, finance, legal compliance, and service integrity.
- Complete screenshots are not intended to be retained permanently and may be temporarily stored only for the requested function.
- Text request content may be retained temporarily for functionality, reliability, troubleshooting, personalization, model improvement, or legal compliance.
- Local reply history and local personalization data may remain on your device until you clear it, disable the relevant feature, or uninstall the app.
Depending on your region and applicable law, you may have rights to access, copy, correct, supplement, delete, restrict, or withdraw consent for certain personal information processing. You can make requests through available app controls, system settings, or support@threply.com.
9. Mainland China Privacy Notice

We process personal information to provide account login, subscription verification, AI reply generation, image recognition, text rewriting, keyboard input, iCloud sync, personalization, security, troubleshooting, and customer support.
Processing methods may include collection, storage, use, transmission to backend services, transmission to third-party AI service providers when necessary, synchronization through iCloud, deletion, and de-identification or aggregation where appropriate.
The categories may include account information, device identifiers, subscription information, screenshots or images you provide, selected text, cursor context, OCR text, reply choices, interaction preferences, keyboard preferences, Rime learning data, user dictionary data, logs, and support emails.
For mainland China app users, backend servers and cloud providers for the app service are intended to be located in mainland China. You may contact us to request access, copying, correction, supplementation, deletion, withdrawal of consent, or explanation of personal information processing rules.
10. Children's Privacy
Threply is not intended for children under the age required by applicable law to independently consent to personal information processing in their region. If you are a child or minor under applicable law, you should use Threply only with the consent and guidance of your parent or guardian.
If we learn that we have collected a child's personal information without appropriate guardian consent where required, we will take reasonable steps to delete or otherwise handle the information according to applicable law. Parents or guardians may contact support@threply.com.
